Literature Text

After dinner, take the blue pills.

Take backsteps to the basement,
ignore the
woman knocking about last
month's rent. There
are notions of relapse so
try not to trip on the
staircase, the glass and
the whole house. Lights
click and make a ticking noise
relevant only to the ears
to remember these nights.
As the workbench
creaks, stay calm.
Wind the record player: it hums,
trying to free the sound
of dead choirs--dust clouds
blanketing projects
of the past. Now,
take a deep breath and
slow down.

Correct the labels on mason jars.
Beep. Beep, beep.

June 14 Critic 1-8 for :iconwriters--club: Once again, I take up my poison pen, for 100 words before the mast.

As is my custom I comment where others won’t, on the unwatched and underappreciated. If you feel I have done right by this work, go out and do the same for someone else.

Critic: NOTES ON THE FRIDGE by crimsonletters

Vision:  Simple concept from everyday life can easily be the begging of a series or a work unto itself.

Originality: Both in concept and style I have not seen anything like this before.

Technique: Basic poetic layout

Impact: It had an effect, stirred my interest, it felt like stepping into someone else’s world for a moment. The story it tells, or my takeaway from this work (perhaps I am projecting), is of an older gentleman just back from the doctor, becoming reacquainted with their previous life. Some of which has come to an end because of a medical condition. Both concern and curiosity are raised regarding the person. Who wrote the note and why?  Is anyone looking out for this person? Or, have they been left to fend for themselves, with a note on the fridge as the dismissal from care, service, and obligation?

Side note: Questions are rhetorical, the author my answer if they wish.  This work was nicely done!
